“Food is our common ground, a universal experience.”

— James Beard

A simple act of a parent feeding a child begins our journey of identity. Who are we? Our earliest memories, tied to the flavors and dishes of our heritage, hold the answer. I, Chris Yong-García, creator of Reimagining Us, have woven my story from Lima, Perú to New York City. My mixed heritage, from my Andean mother to my Chinese-Peruvian father, infuses every dish I make with layers of culture and memory.

In our kitchens, we find more than recipes; we discover our history, our ways of love, and the essence of who we are. New York, my diverse home, mirrors this blend of stories and tastes.

Reimagining Us invites you to share this culinary tapestry. Where are your roots? What dishes stir your heart? Contribute to our global mosaic by sending us your family recipe and story. Let's unite through the universal language of food, celebrating our varied pasts and the rich stories they bring to the table.

The kitchen, where hearts open as recipes are shared, is the core of every home. In the diverse tapestry of New York City, family recipes are not just instructions for dishes; they are stories of heritage, memories from afar, and cultural identity. This is what Reimagining Us brings to life in our kitchen sessions.

Our intimate gatherings are more than cooking and talking; they are celebrations of the rich, diverse narratives that our guests, established New Yorkers from various backgrounds, bring to the table. Together, we discover the emotional depth behind each ingredient, the stories behind unique culinary adaptations, and the melting pot of cultures in every dish. These sessions are journeys into the heart of our heritage, unearthing emotions and memories tied to both the past and the present.

Do you have a recipe that tells a story, or know someone whose culinary heritage is a tale worth sharing? We invite you to join us in weaving this rich, inclusive tapestry of culinary stories. Your narrative is a vital ingredient in our mission to connect through the universal language of food.
